DARE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD

Set the vision and goals for the district, which is to make the Dare County NC School System the best in the nation. Adopt policies and initiatives that give direction to set priorities and achieve our goals. Adopt and oversee the annual budget of $64 million, that targets expenditures to achieve the objective of making children successful in life. Work professionally, cooperatively, and collaboratively with local, state, and federal elected officials to fund programs by substantiating and justifying the expenditure of taxpayers' dollars. Manage the collective bargaining process for employees of the district to ensure that employees are treated fairly and with dignity. Promote internships and apprenticeships for our students with local businesses that enables the students to value work ethic, responsibility, and determine whether the activity could provide future employment opportunities. Serve as conduit for conflict resolution between students, parents, administration, and teachers. Respond timely and compassionately to constituent concerns regarding employment issues, student curriculum, after-school activities. Hire and evaluate the superintendent to ensure that goals and objectives are in alignment. Attend State School Board Conferences to learn of other programs in other NC and US school systems and implementation of those programs. Serve on Capitol Improvement Plan Committee, as well as Career and Technical Education Committee, and Facilities Committee. Promoted opportunities for teachers to advance their careers and serve the students by attaining master's and PhD degrees. Encouraged professional development for teachers so as to enable them to come back to the school system with new ideas to improve opportunities for students.

DARE COUNTY ABC BOARD

Initiate and direct policy pertaining to the operation of 5 liquor establishments in Dare County. Oversee operating budget of $18 million. Historically, top ten in NC for profitability of ABC operations. Hire and evaluate General Manager in their performance of operation of liquor activities in Dare County. Maintain strong customer service responsibilities for staff. Provide uniform control over the sale, purchase, transportation, manufacture, consumption, and possession of alcoholic beverages in Dare County. Comply with established performance standards by conducting regular audit or performance evaluations. Standards include, but are not limited to, standards that address enforcement of ABC laws, store appearance, operating efficiency, solvency, and customer service. Examine existing operating policies, practices, controls, and activities to determine those areas in which there may be need for improvements. Implement use of technology to maintain control of inventory, sales. and prevention of sales to minors. Provide funding for local municipalities and Department of Social Services. Help fund efforts to educate community on abuses of alcohol. Fund Sold Out Program and its outreach to Dare County Students that will promote an alcohol / drug free environment.

ATTORNEY AT LAW

Represented nationwide supermarket, banks, and other corporate clients in general liability and contract matters. Lead or sole counselor for the defendant or plaintiff in at least 1,200 cases, many in prolong litigation. Extensive experience in forming corporations and representing corporations. Skilled in interviewing clients and witnesses, propounding and responding to interrogatories, request for production of documents, and admissions, took and defended depositions, filing of motions, conclusions and preparing and arguing jury instructions. Developed considerable experience in analyzing facts and strategic development of case.

Practical knowledge in examining and cross-examining expert witnesses in medicine and scientific fields.

Managed private law practice for more than 20 years, including all aspects of administration, accountability for profit and loss, controlling costs, achieving revenue objectives and networking. Recruited, supervised, motivated and evaluated employees, including clerical staff, paralegals military personnel of all services and international military forces. Met deadlines for pretrial procedures, trials, appellate briefings and military courts martial by effectively utilizing attorney associates, support staff and outside counsel. Created income earning advertisement programs to ensure productivity within the organization.
